The Western Balkan Six (WB6) economies Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia have made significant progress in digital transformation. National interoperability platforms now connect key public services, including civil registries, tax systems, health institutions, and business registers, enabling secure, efficient, and user-friendly digital services. By agreeing to implement regionally interoperable digital identity wallets, harmonize trust services, and strengthen regulatory and technical capacities, the Western Balkans Six committed to advancing secure and seamless digital access for citizens and businesses, in line with EU eIDAS 2.0 standards. This project will develop and pilot a regional prototype to demonstrate cross-border interoperability of digital services. Depending on national readiness, the prototype will use either wallet-based solutions or mutual recognition of digital credentials among the WB6 countries. The assignment will strengthen institutional capacities, promote regional collaboration, and provide a scalable model for interoperable digital services. By improving accessibility, efficiency, and trust in cross-border public services, the project contributes to a digitally integrated Western Balkans aligned with EU standards.
